On this episode of the AMSSM Sports Medcast (X: @TheAMSSM), host Dr. Jeremy Schroeder, DO (X: @thejschro), is joined by two guests to discuss their award-winning research from last year’s AMSSM Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD.
First, Dr. Meredith Ehn – the 2024 Young Investigator Award winner – discusses “The NICA Injury Surveillance System: Results from Five Years of Student-Athlete Injury Data,” which was recently published in Research in Sports Medicine.
Then, Dr. Rajiv Jain – the 2024 NCAA Research Award winner – shares information about his study, “Assessment Of Stimulated Blink Reflex And Symptoms Over Time In Collegiate Athletes With Sport-related Concussion,” which appeared in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.

On this episode of the Sports Medicine Primer Series, host Dr. Zainab Shirazi, MD, is joined by Dr. Dan Cushman, MD, to discuss how to manage a case of shoulder pain in a 23-year-old backpacker.
The goal of this ongoing series is to be an audible study aid for anyone pursuing a career as a sports medicine physician and to prepare them for a sports medicine fellowship.
Dr. Cushman is board-certified in both Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and specializes in the care of musculoskeletal injuries in both athletes & non-athletes, musculoskeletal ultrasound, electrodiagnostics, and endurance sports-specific injuries. He serves as the team physician for the University of Utah Track & Field and Cross-Country teams and is also the team physician for the University of Utah Swimming and Diving teams.
Dr. Shirazi is a Sports Medicine Fellow at the University of Colorado. She completed her residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia/Cornell, where she served as Chief Resident, and is the current Fellow Chair for AMSSM’s Library of Ultrasound Pathology. She is passionate about women’s sports medicine and providing specialized care for female athletes.

On this episode of the AMSSM Sports Medcast (X: @TheAMSSM), host Dr. Jeremy Schroeder, DO, is joined by Dr. Mike Uihlein, MD, to share a glimpse into his main stage presentation about Paralympic Sideline Emergencies during the 2025 AMSSM Annual Meeting.
Dr. Uihlein is the Associate Chief of Emergency Medicine for Education and Co-Director of the Adaptive Sports Medicine Clinic at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. He also serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
He has served on teams that have claimed 11 titles, including three Paralympic gold medals (2014, 2018, 2022); four world championships (2015, 2019, 2021, 2023); five Para Hockey Cups (formerly World Sled Hockey Challenge) titles (2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2016 (Dec.), 2017, 2019) as well as the 2016 IPC Pan-Pacific Championship and 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament.

On the debut episode of the AMSSM Sports Medicine Primer Series (X: @TheAMSSM), host Dr. Stephen Luebbert, MD, MS, is joined by Dr. Jacqueline Brady, MD, to discuss how to manage a case of patellar dislocation in a basketball player.
The goal of this new series is to be an audible study aid for anyone pursuing a career as a sports medicine physician and to prepare them for a sports medicine fellowship.
Dr. Brady is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR, where she is also the Associate Residency Program Director and Director of Orthopedic Simulation. Dr. Brady serves as Head Team Physician for Portland State University and performs research in the field of patellofemoral instability, multi-ligamentous knee injuries and arthroscopic skill-building in learners.

Dr. Davenport is an exercise physiologist and Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. She holds the Christenson Professorship in Active Healthy Living and is the Director of the Program for Pregnancy and Postpartum Health.
Over the last decade, Dr. Davenport has worked with numerous national and international organizations to support physical activity during and following pregnancy, and she is serving as a Featured International Speaker at this year’s Annual Meeting in Kansas City.

He previously served as a team physician for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, Program Director of the UW Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, and Co-Chair of the Education Committee on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM).
